Madeleine's First Mountain Journey

Although it wasn't much, Madeleine had her first taste of mountain air yesterday. Megan and I followed the Rhone River as it exits Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) around to the French town of Bellegarde at the base and beginnings of the Jura mountain range. We stopped for lunch at a small peak where Madeleine had her first diaper change at about 1600m.

I Made It!!!

It took about 1-1/2 hours to get to the mountain top. Near a small Auberge (Inn), there was a place to stop with a stone park bench.

We pulled off, unpacked, and had a small lunch, while simultaneously rolling the stroller back and forth to keep Madeleine sleepy. It worked for a while.

I did my usual (finish eating first) so I could take over keeping her calm until Megan could finish her lunch.

We changed Madeleine's diaper on the stone bench. I did the changing while Megan held an over-sized umbrella over Madeleine to keep off the high-intensity mountain sun rays.

We did however, receive strange looks from folks doing their mountain Sunday Drive.

I took Madeleine in her stroller and took photos of her with the mountains of the Jura in the background.

The real trick was getting the photo of the mountains and her in the same shot.

Mountain View with Madeleine

Of course, as usual, she gave her little frown (inherited from her daddy), which means in this case, "I really don't care about this mountain stuff, JUST FEED ME!!!"

I frown for food
